Go to Bat Against Hunger

    Help strike out hunger in the Oakland A's Food Bank Wednesdays. Bring two nonperishable food items to Wednesday home games from June to September, and you'll receive a free ticket to a future game. Drop off your food donation before each game at food drive barrels located at the Coliseum BART Plaza and at gates C and D.


Empty Bowls:
2007 Highlights

    On Thursday, June 5, over 225 guests gathered in the Food Bank warehouse for this family-friendly event. We are pleased to report that Empty Bowls raised nearly $48,000 that will directly support our hunger relief and advocacy efforts.

    Guests nourished themselves on a simple meal of bread and soup served in one of 300 colorful bowls painted by students at Redwood Day School. More...


Letter Carriers’ Food Drive
Saturday, May 10


    Help stamp out hunger with the National Association of Letter Carriers 16th annual food drive. Leave a bag of nutritious, nonperishable food, such as canned vegetables and fruits, tuna fish, peanut butter, rice, dry beans and pasta, near your home or business mailbox prior to the morning of Saturday, May 10th. Or take a bag of food to your local post office, where red Food Bank barrels are located.


State Hunger Action Day
Wednesday, May 7, 7am – 5 pm
Sacramento (Buses leave from the Food Bank)


    Join the Food bank staff and the California Hunger Action Coalition for a day at the state capitol and make your voice heard! Rally with motivating speakers and meet with legislators to urge them to pass bills that would help end hunger. Buses leave from the Alameda County Community Food Bank at 7 am.

City of Hayward Earth Day Festival

    Celebrate Earth Day, bring a food donation and receive a recyclable grocery bag from the Serpico Landscaping booth. Festival includes:

East Bay Crop Walk
Sunday, April 20, 2 pm

    Walk for hunger and make a difference! Put on your walking shoes, gather your friends and family and join us for this annual “walk for hunger.” This scenic 3.2 mile walk around Lake Merritt is to raise awareness of the need for food around the world and raise funds to help stop hunger at home and abroad. Once again, the Food Bank is a local beneficiary of the Crop Walk. Registration begins at 1:30 pm at Lake Merritt United Methodist Church located at 1330 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland. Become a Hunger Advocate!
Tuesday, April 23, 10am – 2 pm



    Come to the Alameda County Community Food Bank to learn about current bills on Capitol Hill that will help end hunger and basic advocacy tips to get legislation passed; then join us in Sacramento on Hunger Action Day on May 8. Members of the Food Bank’s advocacy team will give you all the tools you need to become a successful advocate. To learn more, click here.





Public Hearing on General Assistance Time Limits
April 28, 10:30 am

    Tell County Supervisors that you do not believe in instituting a 6 month time limit for General Assistance clients. The meeting will take place at 10:30 at the County Office building in Oakland, 1221 Oak Street. Come early to be part of the action with Poor Magazine and the East Bay Community Law Center.

East Bay Express 2nd Annual “Taste for Art”
Thursday, October 18, 7 - 10 pm
Pro Arts and Swarm Galleries, Jack London Square, 550 Second Street, Oakland

    Sample signature savories and sweets from some of the East Bay’s best restaurants, groove to the sounds of one of the Bay Area’s hottest DJs and soak in art by local talents. Food donations benefit the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

    Tickets (includes one additional ticket): $25 plus food donation (5 cans minimum) or grocery store gift card donation (minimum $5).


Party Planning for the Holidays
Tuesday, October 23, 10 am - Noon
Food Bank Training Room

    Get a head start on the holiday season with party planning tips from caterer and event planner Barbara Llewellyn and noted floral designer and author Ron Morgan. With a holiday-themed cooking demonstration, entertaining tips and an edible centerpiece how-to, you’ll be prepared. Includes a continental breakfast and a tour of the Food Bank.

    Join us for a great line-up of restaurants, premier food and wine tasting, a cool selection of silent auction items, dancing to Livewire party band and raffle prizes! A portion of the proceeds benefits the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

National Hunger Awareness Day
Tuesday, June 5

Now in its sixth year, this day serves as a platform for domestic hunger-relief organizations to raise awareness about hunger in America. This year’s theme is "The Face of Hunger Will Surprise You." In conjunction with this day, the Alameda County Community Food Bank is hosting Empty Bowls, a fundraising event to benefit those in need in our community. Art for Food’s Sake!

Enjoy an evening of art, food and music as Downtown Restaurant in Berkeley kicks off an exhibition of original artwork from Bay Area artists who work in restaurants. Letter Carriers’ Food Drive
Saturday, May 12

Help stamp out hunger with the National Association of Letter Carriers’ 15th annual food drive. Leave non-perishable food donations near your home or business mailbox for pickup on May 12 when your mail is delivered.

Taste of the NFL, the Party with a Purpose!

Food, Fun and Football… What Could Be Better? The 16th Annual Taste of the NFL takes place Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Since its founding in 1992, Taste of the NFL has raised more than $6 million for hunger-related charities and has become one of the premier events of Super Bowl weekend, hosting an average of 3,000 guests on the eve of the big game. The recipe for success is outstanding food, perfectly paired wines, personal interaction with NFL greats, a one-of-a-kind silent auction and live entertainment.

A portion of the funds raised through the Party with a Purpose are distributed to members of America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network™(A2H) located in NFL cities.

Scouting For Food
Saturday, November 18 (One-Day Food Drive)

The biggest one-day food drive! Local Boy Scout troops will leave a bag at your front door. Fill it up with nutritious, non-perishable food and leave it at your front door on Saturday, November 18 for the Boy Scouts to collect and deliver to your local food bank. Click here for more information.
