Empty Bowls event raises funds and awareness
WHAT:
Empty Bowls is an evening of nourishment, education and art as the Alameda County Community Food Bank works to fill the empty bowls on tables in our community. This fundraising event is directed at increasing awareness of the 40,000 Alameda County residents who rely on the Food Bank weekly, 35% of whom are children. The event includes the debut of the 2006 Hunger Study entitled Hunger: the Faces & the Facts, a comprehensive look at hunger across Alameda County.
Desley Brooks, Oakland City Council for District 6 and Larry Reid, Oakland City Council for District 7 are the invited guest speakers, along with Food Bank clients who have felt hunger.
Attendees will enjoy a nourishing meal of a variety of soups provided by the San Francisco Soup Company and bread from Panera Bread. Guests will also be able to take home a ceramic bowl made by area art students. A silent auction featuring the ceramic art of local artists will also take place.
WHO:
The public is invited to attend along with community leaders, Food Bank clients and volunteers, policy makers and other concerned citizens.
VISUAL:
100 people dining from hand decorated bowls in a working food warehouse with guest speakers and ceramic art for auction.

Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at 5:30 p.m.
