Contact: Kari Martell FedEx Express delivers donations and volunteer hours to Alameda County Community Food Bank during FedEx Cares Day on October 17 Money to fuel Food Bank's programs for low-income children Oakland, Calif. (10/17/05) – One hundred FedEx Express employees will report to work today, but it won't be in their trucks, it'll be at the new warehouse of Alameda County Community Food Bank as part of FedEx Cares Day, the company's national kickoff of its employee United Way campaign. Robin Van Gaulder, co-managing director, FedEx Express Oakland Hub, will present Suzan Bateson, executive director of the Alameda County Community Food Bank, with a check for $20,000. "The Alameda County Community Food Bank and FedEx Express are both in the delivery business—they deliver packages and we deliver food," states Bateson. "We're thrilled that our new neighbor, FedEx Express, is offering its support, both financially and with volunteers. This helps us distribute more nutritious food to low-income children and adults, and we hope it's the start of a long lasting partnership." "FedEx people have a special feeling for Alameda County, which hosts one of our major international operations," Willis, states. "Nothing is more basic to those communities' well-being than providing food to those in need." FedEx employees will arrive at the Food Bank's warehouse located at 7900 Edgewater Drive in Oakland at 9 am to sort and bag food for distribution.
