5th Annual Fundraiser

—“Savor the Season” Features California-grown Food and Wine, September 23—

13 September 2007 -- (Oakland, CA) –– In recognition of outstanding efforts to help eradicate hunger, the Alameda County Community Food Bank will present its inaugural “Hope Not Hunger” awards to KFOG and Good Cents for Oakland at its fifth annual Savor the Season fundraising event on Sunday, September 23, 12 – 3 pm at Wente Vineyards in Livermore. Joey Altman, Celebrity Chef and host of Bay Café, is the keynote speaker and the Silverwood Jazz Quartet will be performing. Attendees will enjoy a gourmet buffet of California cuisine, paired with wines from Wente Vineyards (located at 5050 Arroyo Drive, Livermore). Guests can participate in both a live and a silent auction, featuring a 3-day getaway at a Sea Ranch vacation home, a 10-person suite for the Gwen Stefani concert, a private dinner with César chef Maggie Pond, Tiffany & Co jewelry, golf packages and more. Proceeds benefit the hunger relief efforts of the Food Bank. Tickets are $125 per person or $1,125 per table and can be purchased online at www.accfb.org or by calling 510-635-3663 ext. 328.

“Working together we can fight hunger and our award recipients represent the broad spectrum of our Food Bank’s supporters and donors—from large companies to smaller grassroots organizations,” says Food Bank executive director Suzan Bateson. “We are happy to recognize those organizations that are making a difference in our community. The Food Bank’s inventory is very low right now so this fundraiser is critical to our success as we head into the holiday season.”

KFOG (104.5 FM) has been a supporter of Bay Area food banks for 14 years, with proceeds from the sale of its annual Live from the Archives CD. To date Volumes 1 - 13 have raised more than $3 million to help fight hunger locally.

Good Cents for Oakland was founded in 2005 by Dagmar Serota who serves, without compensation, as President and Executive Director. The organization is dedicated to empowering and inspiring Oakland’s pre-k and elementary Oakland school children to engage in community service through its free, 10-week Penny Roundup Program. Children learn to work together as a school to address one issue and make a grant to one organization they’ve selected to make Oakland a better place. The Food Bank was the recipient of the grant last year.

Savor the Season’s presenting sponsor is Dewey Ballantine LLP. Gold sponsor is KPMG; silver sponsors are Deloitte and 1st United Services Credit Union and media sponsors are KTVU/Fox 2, Diablo Magazine, The Independent and Oakland Magazine.
