San Francisco and Alameda County Food Banks Fly High with JetBlue Donation
December 10, 2007 -- (San Francisco, CA) When JetBlue launched nonstop service between San Francisco International Airport and New York’s John. F. Kennedy International Airport, it made a pledge to donate part of the proceeds from flights booked between May 3 and June 3 to the San Francisco and Alameda County Community Food Banks. JetBlue, demonstrating its commitment to giving back to the Bay Area community, is donating $40,000 to each food bank and will be presenting checks to the Food Banks today. “This donation represents 240,000 meals for low-income people in the Bay Area,” said Suzan Bateson, executive director of the Alameda County Community Food Bank. “This is a critical time of the year when people may have to choose between heating their home or putting food on the table. JetBlue’s generous donation will help feed the thousands of residents who find themselves in need of our services during the holiday season.” “JetBlue became a true Bay Area citizen when earlier this year we launched service to our third airport in the region – San Francisco International,” said Icema Gibbs, director community relations of JetBlue Airways. “However our dedication to the Bay Area extends beyond offering low-fare, high-frill flights. We look for ways to give back to the communities in which our customers and our crewmembers live. This donation, which we are honored to make to the San Francisco and Alameda County Community Food Banks, does exactly that.” JetBlue’s philanthropic outreach focuses on four areas: children, education, community and the environment. In 2007 the airline supported over 90 charitable events in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. Specifically, JetBlue has partnered with San Francisco Opera’s BRAVO! CLUB and The Taylor Family Foundation.
