James Beard Award Winner Tara Duggan to Speak at Alameda County Community Food Bank’s Fourth Annual Savor the Season Fundraising Gala at Wente Vineyards on June 11, 2006

Oakland, Calif. (5/31/06) The public is invited to attend a celebration of seasonal foods at Wente Vineyards on June 11, 2006, from 12 noon to 3 pm to help the Alameda County Community Food Bank provide food assistance to 40,000 people each week, 35% of whom are children.

Award winning chef Tara Duggan, winner of the James Beard Foundation Award and a staff writer for the Food section in the San Francisco Chronicle, is the keynote speaker. The Silverwood Jazz Quartet will also be performing. Attendees will enjoy a gourmet buffet of California cuisine, paired with wines from Wente Vineyards (located at 5050 Arroyo Drive, Livermore).

Guests can participate in both a live and a silent auction, featuring a weekend at a Sea Ranch vacation home, a tour in a 1936 Stearman bi-plane, a hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley, a Chalk Hill Winery tour and luncheon, various sports memorabilia, jewelry and more.

"Summer is a difficult time for many families who struggle to feed their growing children, especially since children don't receive school meals then," states Suzan Bateson, executive director of the Alameda County Community Food Bank. "The Food Bank must be well stocked to help fill this gap, and that's why this fundraiser is so critical to our operation."

Duggan will autograph copies of her new cookbook, "The Working Cook: Fast and Fresh Meals for Busy People," at the event.

Tickets are $125 per person, which includes lunch and wine. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact: Kasandra Kaplanes at (510) 635-3663, ext. 328 or click here.
