COVID-19 Response Update

If you are in need of food, please call 1-510-635-3663, or visit FoodNow.net (ComidaAhora.net)

COVID-19 has presented a complex crisis unlike any we have ever faced: Arriving swiftly and powerfully like a natural disaster and persisting like the worst of recessions. Because of COVID and the economic fallout, at least 1 in 4 of us are experiencing some level of food insecurity.

Thanks to an incredible outpouring of support, we have scaled our work to levels we didn’t expect to reach for many years. We expect to provide 53 million pounds of food this year – a 64 percent more than the last full fiscal year before COVID. We also estimate needing an additional $1.5 million per month in expenses, most of which is related to our response and recovery efforts.

The economic effects of COVID-19 will extend far beyond the health crisis. We know we have a long, steep climb ahead of us. Thank you for trusting us with this important work and joining us in the fight against hunger.

Our Response by the Numbers

Food Insecurity has increased 50%+ while unemployment rates remain 3 times pre-pandemic levels.

With a firm understanding of the geography of need in Alameda County we’ve invested resources and opened new distributions in the most impacted areas.

We now provide food for 4 million meals each month – enough to feed 75,000 people each day.

Our food purchase costs nearly tripled from April 2020 – the first full month of the pandemic – to July 2020, the first month of our current fiscal year.

These funds will help ensure that our network has the resources needed to grow and continue to providing healthy food to even more households.
