2018–22 Strategic Plan

Improving Lives for the People We Serve

Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB) is evolving.

Building on our successful 2013-18 strategic plan—which dramatically increased meals available to our clients—we are implementing a new plan (on July 1, 2018) that furthers our work to improve the lives of the people we serve, as well as those we aren’t yet.

Our new approach anchors us firmly in our core business, while embracing the reality that to meet dynamic needs we must work beyond meals to improve food security and wellness for those we serve.

This new four-year journey is built on the following strategic objectives:

Strengthen the nutrition safety net

Increase meals from 90 million to 120 million annually through food distribution, CalFresh outreach, and policy change.

Measure and close the “hunger gap”

Continue to understand how our clients are doing so we can expand our support of those who need it today – while taking significant steps toward reducing future need. We must also build on our capacity to measure success.

Define and demonstrate how our work changes lives

Demonstrate connections between our work and the well-being of our community. Our research team looks for strategies and solutions that support healthier families and the impact nourishing food has on education, health, and workforce readiness.

Invest in innovation to better serve the community

Embrace change and experimentation. As an organization, we are expanding on our culture of innovation to develop and try new ideas quickly to find new results and reach new people.

Advance the policy fight to end hunger

Broaden our grassroots efforts to address hunger at its root causes. Strengthen our work to further create economic and social opportunities – and eliminate racial disparities.

Cultivate a broader, more diverse base of supporters

Inspire current donors and attract a new generation of supporters. Deepen the engagement of supporters in innovative and meaningful ways. Expand on our network of skilled-based volunteers to support our work.
