An update on our emergency response
Appeal Banner

Many people are still facing hard times due to COVID-19. More neighbors than ever are reaching out - our Emergency Food Helpline is receiving two times the calls than before the crisis. And, we've significantly increased our food distribution. In June alone, we distributed 4.7 million pounds - 400,000 pounds more than the record-breaking month we had in May. This is possible because of your support. Thank you for your compassion and generosity as we scale our emergency response.

Welcoming back our volunteers
Appeal Banner

"It feels great to be back. It feels great to see some familiar faces and get back into action to help," Doris, a volunteer, said.

As many places begin to (slowly) re-open, we're thrilled to finally welcome back some community volunteers to our warehouse. Before the pandemic, we relied on the generous time of nearly 17,000 volunteers every year. Since COVID-19, we had to pause community volunteers for a time and are so glad to have them back. We still have a few volunteer shifts open. If you're available to sort food from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. at least one regular weekday per week for the month of July, please sign up

How we're serving 20,000 people every week

In addition to our network of partner agencies, we're operating three drive-through distributions to help meet the need. Combined, the distributions in Oakland, Hayward, and Pleasanton are serving 20,000 people weekly. Learn more about these distributions and see how they operate.

Having fun while giving back

We're so inspired by the outpouring of support we've seen from our community during this time - especially from our youngest supporters. From hosting a lemonade stand to donating straight from their piggy banks, read some of the creative and kind-hearted ways children are fighting hunger

Ask your senators to boost SNAP benefits
While food banks play a critical role in responding to the pandemic, we can't do it alone. SNAP (CalFresh) is the first line of defense against hunger. We must ensure those benefits are expanded to help people get the food they need. Send a message to your U.S. Senators today, urging them to boost SNAP benefits in the next COVID-19 response bill.
An important reminder: Complete the 2020 Census

The 2020 Census is underway and we have a lot at stake. Yet time and time again, the Census misses millions of us - including Communities of Color, LGBTQ people, immigrants and refugees, and people with low income. Let's ensure a fair and accurate count. Because of the pandemic, the deadline was extended to October 31. Be sure to complete the Census today.

Juneteenth stories from our community
Juneteenth - the day commemorating the final act that ended slavery in the U.S. - is important every year. But this year, it feels like it carries extra weight. Read the stories of some inspirational people and organizations that forged the path to justice we're still walking today.
Thank you for your support!
Last month, Stephen and Ayesha Curry's Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation generously matched all gifts up to $100,000. We're thrilled that we quickly met the match. Thank you. Your support means healthy meals and peace of mind for our neighbors.
