Join Us: Support Neighbors like Berenice

Berenice, Oakland

Berenice works hard at her job at a local recreation center, but her real passion is raising her four children. With three teenagers and a pre-teen at home, Berenice spends a lot of time preparing meals to fuel rapidly growing bodies. But the cost of groceries can drastically limit her menu options.

We met Berenice on a visit to Unity Council, one of our 400 agency partners, where she was especially grateful to receive fresh produce and non-perishable food items that she can take home to prepare for her kids.

The food you help us provide to agency partners like Unity Council helps households like Berenice’s stock their pantries when kids are eating more meals at home instead of school.

Berenice enjoys cooking healthy Mexican dishes for her family, which is made easier with the nutritious staples she’s receiving from Unity Council. “Coming here helps me a lot,” Berenice shared.

Fun, Fresh Produce & Family Volunteering!

Family Volunteer“Volunteering as a family is fun,” says Chard Nelson, who volunteers regularly with his wife, Jan Berman, and their child, Zane.

With summer here, we are currently receiving thousands of pounds of fresh produce each week. To ensure freshness when it reaches our neighbors, we need your help to sort and bag it and get out into the community as quickly as possible.

When you give your time, like the Berman-Nelson family, you make an impact that reaches across the entire community… and have fun doing it!
