Investing in Food Justice with Dig Deep Farms

Deep Dig Farm

Earlier this month we shared some very exciting, dare we say ‘ground’-breaking, news! ACCFB has made a multi-year investment to develop the operations of Dig Deep Farms (DDF) and serve as its incubator and 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor. DDF is a non-profit farm that grows and distributes organic produce in Alameda County and has been a critical supplier of nutritious food for the local food as medicine initiative Recipe4Health.

“Opportunities that are this mission-aligned—and as beneficial to all the partners involved—do not come around that often,” says Regi Young, executive director of ACCFB. “We are in this work to end hunger in Alameda County. For us that means investing in impactful and sustainable efforts that advance food justice—which itself is at the intersection of many interconnected issues including economic, racial, climate justice, healthcare, and so much more. Investing in DDF is the perfect opportunity for our food bank to make enormous strides toward ending hunger for good.”

“If someone helps you, you have to help someone else too. That is what it is to be human: to take and to give,” said Sulaiman who started volunteering at MCC after coming to pick up food for his own family and seeing how much help was needed in his community. “Today, we were boxing tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, onions, and apples.”
