Volunteers Needed for New Projects!

Volunteers sorting produce

More food is heading out of our Oakland warehouse this fall, and we need help to keep up. Volunteers are packing boxes with mixed produce for two different projects providing neighbors experiencing health conditions with nutritious and often organic produce. Winter holidays bring more donated food items to sort and pack, and that’s on top of our daily need for thousands of pounds of bagged fruits and veggies.

If you love the outdoors, our partners at Dig Deep Farms (located at Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont) need weekend volunteer help with face painting, crafts, photos, loading pumpkins, and various other activities at the pumpkin patch.

Volunteers Share ACCFB With the World

Volunteers in the Wild

You’ve probably seen volunteers wearing their colorful ACCFB shirts at the Food Bank. Sometimes these volunteers are even spotted in iconic locations throughout the world. Warehouse volunteer, Rick Soper, represented ACCFB in Arches National Park, Utah.

Visit our blog for more photos of volunteers in the wild.

Welcome Annie!

Volunteer Manager Charles Beyer with daughter Josie, and wife Ellen

Please stop by and give a warm welcome to our newest Volunteer Team member. Annie McShane joined the Food Bank this month as Volunteer Engagement Manager. Annie brings over a decade of non-profit volunteer management experience and has lots of energy and ideas for growing our program. A Castro Valley resident, Annie says she’s grateful to fill her days with individuals who are willing to give of their most precious resource – their time. “It’s a constant source of inspiration.”

Volunteers Pull Crowds at Community Festivals

Volunteers shared their passion for our mission with visitors who stopped by our booths at the Solano Stroll and Oakland Pride Festival this month. “Our event volunteers are incredible, and we hope to attend even more festivals to showcase how Alameda County neighbors can get involved,” says Associate Director of Community Engagement, Ingrid Becker. “Letting people know that we can use the help is fun," says volunteer Warren Holmes. “You get to meet a diversity of society and give back.”

Picnic Returns to MLK Shoreline

A few raindrops couldn’t dampen spirits as volunteers and ACCFB staff gathered for good food and friendship at our annual appreciation picnic last month.  The new site along the estuary was a hit as volunteers feasted on delicious barbecue prepared by Tim Martin, who is also one of our pantry partners. Thank you to everyone who came out for this wonderful tradition!
