More Monday Warehouse Volunteers Needed

Mondays are our busiest days in the warehouse – we need to pack mixed produce boxes to go out into the community and more hands will ensure we can get this work done.

We’re grateful to all of you who join us, and we’re asking for your help in inviting your coworkers, friends, family, or neighbors so that we can keep up with all the projects. Sign up on the website and spread the word. Our call center also needs a few weekly volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, please send us an email.

Volunteer Spotlight: Call Center Helper Gets as Much as she Gives

College Corps Fellows Collect Data at Pantries

College Corps Fellow Viridiana Avalos (right), enters data in a tablet as Alexia Manzo (left), assists a client fill out forms at Lockwood Steam Academy in Oakland.

Four Cal State East Bay students are working beside Food Bank staff this fall to collect and record information for our client management project. The students; Helen Martin, Viridiana Avalos, Esaud Vargas and Hongying Wu are part of the state’s College Corps paid internship program. “I am learning a lot of people are in need of food,” says Avalos, a junior in business administration. This is our second year welcoming College Corps fellows, and we couldn’t be happier to have these dedicated young people interacting with clients to collect and record data that will help us better serve neighbors.

Lead Volunteer Takes on a New Role

Temporary Logistics Coordinator Yvonne Williams smiles broadly as she prepares to welcome volunteers to the CEC warehouse

Volunteers know Yvonne Williams as one of their own. Friendly, with a warm smile, she is always eager to problem-solve challenges in the CEC. Yvonne joined the volunteer team this fall as our temporary Volunteer Logistics Coordinator and is working alongside Ren in the warehouse to keep our busy holiday season running smoothly. Yvonne spent 25 years working in corporate research and she tells us she is enjoying her time immersed in nonprofit work. Be sure to say hello to Yvonne in the warehouse and ask her about the other cool places where she volunteers!
