CalFresh Awareness Month

CalFresh, known nationwide as SNAP (formerly known as “food stamps”), is the first line of defense against hunger in Alameda County. For every meal that food banks provide, CalFresh/SNAP provides nine.

This CalFresh Awareness Month, federal funding for the SNAP program is at risk so it is even more critical to spread awareness and use your voice to oppose SNAP cuts. ACCFB’s CalFresh Outreach team is always here to help ensure more community members can access CalFresh.

Volunteer Appreciation All Year Round

We had a blast celebrating volunteers last month for Volunteer Appreciation Month, but our appreciation doesn’t stop there! We are endlessly grateful for the incredible individuals and groups who show up every day in our warehouse and throughout the community to support our work through their time, energy, and heart.

Cast Your Vote

It’s award season in the East Bay and you have a chance to spread the word about ACCFB to even more people!

Vote for us in three different categories for Best of Oakland Magazine: Best Charitable Event, Best Nonprofit, and Best Place to Volunteer. Note you’ll need to verify your email address when you vote.

But wait, there’s more! You can also nominate us for East Bay Express’ Best Nonprofit. Find ACCFB in the “Goods and Services” category.

Grooving for Good

Harvey Wainapel’s jazz quartet “Alegritude” will be performing a benefit concert with all proceeds going to ACCFB on June 1. Get your tickets for this event at Coventry Grove in Kensington for an afternoon of joyful Brazilian jazz that will support hunger relief in Alameda County.

Enjoy a day at the Fair with Alameda County Fair’s annual Feed the Need Food Drive on Wednesday, June 18, from 12 pm to 5 pm.

Donate 4 non-perishable food items or donate $7 at the gate to receive free fair admission (plus $1 carnival rides!). Admission is free for children 5 years old & younger.

Some of our most needed food items include easy to open cans or pouches of chili, soup, or canned meat, non-perishable fruit cups, peanut butter, and cereal.

Hope to see you at the Alameda County Fair on June 18!

ICYMI: Hunger Action Day

On April 29, over 50 community members, volunteers, and staff from ACCFB participated in Hunger Action Day: a day of advocacy for anti-hunger legislation at the State Capitol. This year, ACCFB lobbied for a continuation of vital state funding for food banks, the expansion of CalFresh benefits to all Californians regardless of their age or immigration status, and an increase to the minimum benefits for CalFresh from $23 to $60 per month.

See our 2025 policy agenda to learn more about what we’re advocating for and if you’d like to take action, check out our ongoing opportunities.
