We have more opportunities to volunteer and to celebrate together on the horizon. Stay tuned for more info about our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event, coming up in late September. Night on The Town, In Community  

Thank you to all who volunteered and participated in Night on The Town at the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) last month! Thanks to a mighty group of volunteers, families explored ACCFB's programs through a 'Food Justice Quest,' visiting interactive booths featuring games and activities focused on food access, nutrition, and community support. Attendees also enjoyed a book giveaway with Stephen and Ayesha Curry's Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation and food from Off the Grid.  



The evening was a meeting of art, culture, community, and food justice, and we can’t wait to see what we can do together next!   

Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride, Resistance, and Joy    

It was so special to be in community with so many of you at our Pride Day of Service & Celebration in June! More than 150 volunteers gathered to sort food and celebrate LGBTQ+ pride with food, music, poetry, and a drag performance.     

Together, volunteers packaged 38,739 pounds of produce, which is equivalent to 32,153 meals. Every bag of produce was packed with a little bit of extra joy, which we know will radiate into our community.   



A huge thank you to all who participated including volunteer groups who helped make the day so special: Werk the Room, Gay For Good, 100 Black Men of the Bay Area and The Coalition of the 100 Black Women, Oakland Queer Choir, Redwood Day School, East Bay Front Runners and Walkers, Sandia National Laboratories and Troop 789.

Juneteenth Day of Service 

Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, is a time to honor African American history, heritage, and contributions while reflecting on the ongoing work toward equity and justice. More than 120 volunteers gathered in the Community Engagement Center on Thursday, June 18th for ACCFB's Juneteenth Day of Service event to eat breakfast together before sorting and packaging 28,805 pounds of fresh produce that went out to our community across Alameda County. 

Thank you to our incredible volunteers who made this day possible, including volunteer groups: A Brighter View, Ala Costa, Helping Hands, California School for the Deaf, College Internship Program Berkeley, AAA Mountain West Group, and PG&E. Your commitment to our shared community makes a lasting impact! 

A Fun and Fruitful Day at the Fair 

What’s a better way to come together with fellow community members than at the County Fair? This year, volunteers collected over 18,000 pounds of food at the Feed the Need Food Drive at the Alameda County Fair!  

In addition to food drive, ACCFB received over $11,000 in donations, funds that will be matched by Albertsons Companies Foundation as part of their Nourish the American Dream campaign. 



This year’s event was extra special thanks to all the volunteers who sorted food, greeted fairgoers, and passed out “Hunger Hero” stickers. Thank you Patelco Credit Union, Kaiser Permanente, and UA Local 342 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union for volunteering with us!

Advocacy Works: Celebrating Community Wins  

While advocacy work certainly requires patience, there are moments when long periods of dedicated advocacy and community organizing finally pay off. We’re celebrating some significant wins thanks to your advocacy efforts Sacramento and in contacting state lawmakers.  

On June 29, Governor Newsom signed a state government budget for the 2026-2027 Fiscal Year that represents a major victory for ACCFB’s advocacy. Amidst cruel federal cuts that are already increasing hunger and poverty, the new budget provides millions of dollars in funding for California’s food banks and nutrition programs so that we can better respond to this surge in hunger. And we couldn’t have done it without YOU.
