Celebrating Seven Years with Eat. Learn. Play.

Congratulations to Stephen Curry on being awarded the 2026 Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award and to Stephen and Ayesha Curry for being named Philanthropists of the Year by The Hollywood Reporter for their work with Eat. Learn. Play. ACCFB is proud to partner with Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation to bring food, books, opportunities for play, and joy to Oakland kids.
This year marks seven years that Eat. Learn. Play. has been active in our community, over which they’ve distributed 15 million meals. Community Organizing Milestones: Building Power Together
Last month, over 100 people gathered at ACCFB to honor the 18 graduates and 17 advocacy award winners of the first cohort of the Community Organizing Leadership Academy Program, or COLAP.
Through COLAP, community organizers have learned and practiced skills to fight hunger and advocate for change, building a foundation to collectively make their voices heard, where it can have the most powerful impact. The work of the Food Justice Organizing Task Force led to real wins this year including funding on the local and state level for food security and moves to protect immigrant communities.
The graduation was a community-centered celebration with family, friends, food, stories from organizers and staff, and commendations from county leaders. As Soraya Urrutia, a community organizer said in her remarks that day, “this is the first COLAP, but it’s not the last. The movement doesn’t end today.”

August is National Make-A-Will Month, an invitation to reflect on how we can protect our loved ones and shape the world. Preparing for the future is like a love letter to our community: helping build a permanent foundation for a stronger Alameda County where everyone has the food they need to be nourished and thriving.

Thank You, Student Volunteers!
We’re so grateful for the student volunteers who showed up this summer in the CEC to sort produce, fill home delivery boxes, and even to step up into Lead Volunteer positions.
This summer we had an increased interest by high school students in becoming Lead Volunteers. After their training, students from Albany High School, El Cerrito High School, Bentley School, and Bishop O'Dowd were elevated to Lead Volunteers. They join the ranks of other high school students from Kipp King High School, San Lorenzo High School, Head Royce, Piedmont High School, Emerald High School, and Miramonte High School who became Lead Volunteers in the previous years. Before the school year started, we were excited to welcome over 125 incoming freshmen from Bishop O’Dowd—we hope to see many of you back to volunteer soon.

Although school is back in session, we welcome student volunteers all year round! Whether you’re a student, recent graduate, or haven’t been in school for decades, we’d love to have you join an upcoming volunteer event.

Calling All Athletes: Turkey Trot and East Bay Dirt Classic
This Thanksgiving (November 26) is the 10th annual Oakland Turkey Trot. ACCFB is proud to have partnered with the Turkey Trot since day one in a collaboration that centers community and fun. You can register now to reserve your spot and to support our community with a donation to ACCFB.
If biking is more your speed, make sure to save the date for the East Bay Dirt Classic, a fundraiser for ACCFB, coming up on October 10. Through the East Bay Dirt Classic, C510, the team behind the race, has partnered with ACCFB for over a decade. Last year, the event raised $82,000 for the Food Bank!
