A Farewell Message from Annie McShane

ACCFB Volunteers, 

As I step into a new chapter outside ACCFB, I wanted to write to the people who made the job of Volunteer Engagement Manager the best one I've ever had. Those people, of course, are all of you. 

This is not a message of goodbye so much as one of gratitude. Whether you came for one shift, or you've been showing up for years, thank you. Please know all of it counts.  

Volunteers make our mission possible. I've said that a thousand times in orientations, wraps, meetings, and while I’m sorting sweet potatoes, and I'll keep saying it as I go because it’s true. I saw it during every shift in the CEC. That is the power of collective action in Alameda County. That is the power of this volunteer community. Thank you for letting me be part of it.  

I hope to see you again on a future shift in the warehouse. As always, thank you for your time.

Today is the last day to RSVP for our Annual Volunteer “Picnic” at Nido’s Backyard on Saturday, October 3 from 12-2 pm!  

We hope you can join to celebrate and schmooze with dedicated ACCFB volunteers and staff. Whether you're loyal to food sorting in the CEC, our agencies at the Community Market, our community members who call our Helpline, or special events out in the community, we'd be honored to share this space with you. 

Hunger Action Month: How to Get Involved  

Community advocates at California Hunger Action Day

September is Hunger Action Month, and there are many ways to get involved! Volunteers play an essential role in the fight against hunger. In addition to volunteering this September, you can take action by learning about advocacy and organizing opportunities, confirming you’re registered to vote, and by writing to Governor Newsom to encourage him to sign AB 1049, which would help immigrants access food assistance. 
 
This Hunger Action Month—and all year round—we are grateful to have you in our collective effort to ensure that everyone in Alameda County is nourished and thriving!      

Volunteer at the Dig Deep Farms Pumpkin Patch 

Join ACCFB partner Dig Deep Farms in Ardenwood Historic Farm for the annual Pumpkin Patch. This iconic pumpkin patch has activities for the whole family, and it helps support our food justice work. You can visit the Pumpkin Patch on Saturdays and Sundays in October from 10 am – 4 pm or get more involved by signing up to volunteer.  

Oakland Turkey Trot: Run, Walk, Volunteer

This Thanksgiving (November 26) is the 10th annual Oakland Turkey Trot. ACCFB is proud to have partnered with the Turkey Trot since day one in a collaboration that centers community and fun. You can register now to reserve your spot and to support our community with a donation to ACCFB. If you’re interested in volunteering with us that day, email events@accfb.org before you register for the race.
