Saleem Shakir-GilmoreChabot College

Saleem is the Director of Student Equity and Success over the Student Equity Office at Chabot College. Responsibilities within the Student Equity Office are to support students’ basic needs, towards their academic success. Our relationship with the Alameda County Community Food Bank as a vital partner is an important part of our basic needs support, being able to provide healthy, nutritious food for our students to position them to best succeed in class.

Saleem was interested in participating as a Network Chair and Agency Relations Committee member to bring a different lens, not only the higher education lens, but a lens that reflects the needs of our most underserved community members in Alameda County, specifically low income African American, Latinx, and immigrant families.

The food bank member agency network is important to Chabot College because it allows us to meet our state-mandated and district-established goals, specifically our goals to support our most marginalized students to address housing insecurity, food insecurity, as well as making sure students have the proper supplies and services to accomplish their educational goals.
