Advocates at the CA State Capitol on Hunger Action Day 2025

Together, we created lasting change.

This community came together to advocate for critical anti-hunger state policy by sharing stories and sending messages to lawmakers on Hunger Action Day and the months following, and guess what? It worked!

Three of the policies we all worked so hard to advocate for are included in the CA State Budget that Governor Newsom just signed:

  • CalFood is fully funded at $60 million per year, which helps food banks throughout California distribute fresh, locally grown produce. Currently, one-third of the food ACCFB distributes comes through CalFood.
  • Child nutrition in CA is funded year-round through School Meals for All and SUN Bucks, a program that provides food benefits to eligible children during the summer months when school is not in session.
  • We’re on track to expand access to California Food Assistance Program (CFAP) in 2027, so that Californians ages 55+ can access these CalFresh-equivalent benefits regardless of their immigration status.

Thank you for being a part of vital policy change in California. State protection of anti-hunger programs is even more essential now with federal threats to SNAP looming. And as you can see, when we all work together, advocacy works!
